He was born on 15th January 1980 in Bongtang area in Tso-ngon division in Dhomay, Tibet, to a humble nomad family. At the age of six, he joined Sengeyshang primary school in Themchen area where he first started learning Tibetan and Chinese readings. After finishing the primary education, he continued studying introductory Tibetan cultural studies and other education skills till the age of ten in ‘Mirig lobchung’ in the same county.

Ragya monastery (ra rgya, pronounced Rajia in the Amdo dialect), is the second-largest Buddhist monastery in Qinghai, with over 500 monks. It is located in Maqin County of Qinghai Province at the bottom of Ami-gonchen (a myes mgon chen) Mountain, on the northern banks of the Yellow River. It is 380 km away from the provincial capital of Xining. This site is under protection of the Cultural Relics Preservation Unit of Qinghai Provincial level.

The Shingza Labrang is the historic residence of the successive Shingza Rinpoches. It was originally established in the 18th century by the 7th Shingza Rinpoche within Ragya Monastery in Tibet. Among its most revered treasures is a complete set of hand-carved woodblock printing plates for the Kangyur—the Tibetan Buddhist Canon containing the spoken teachings of the Buddha.
